Grand Theft Auto V Makes History in the Entertainment Industry !

In the entertainment industry, especially the gaming industry the latest installment of Rockstar Games, the Grand Theft Auto V took the world by storm. The game Grand Theft Auto V grossed over $1 billion US dollars just under 3 days of its launch on September 17, 2013. It has also overtaken the lifetime sales of GTA IV in the UK within three weeks of its release.

The previous holders of this world records were Call of Duty series and the movies, The Avenger and the Avatar.

Games like Call of Duty and GTA proves that there is a huge market in the gaming industry. According to Guinness World Records editor-in-chief, Craig Glenday, “Gaming is no longer a niche hobby, as GTA 5 has proved, and how exciting that it’s taken on the might of Hollywood and won! I’m also doubly proud as a Dundonian to welcome this home-grown series back into the Guinness World Records book,”

Even though the Guinness World Records claimed that GTA V sold over 112 million copies in its first day on sale but Rockstar chose not to make any public statements. It is speculated that the numbers might be even higher.

Here are some of the records held by GTA alone:

1. Best-selling action-adventure videogame just within 24 hours

2. Fastest videogame to gross $1 billion

3. Most viewed trailer for an action-adventure game

How do you think this will shape the entertainment industry? Do you feel more companies will start investing their money in making video games rather than on movies?
