Top 10 Blogging Dos and Don"ts

Top 10 Blogging Dos and Don’ts

Blogging dos and  don’ts is an essential for every blogger.  Seems like everyone wants to blog and everyone wants to get themselves out there. But very few people knows what it takes to be a real / good blogger. Here at PING Magazine, we would say it all down to passion, if you love writing then top 10 blogging dos and don’ts is a must have.

On the other hand….Don’t you just hate it when 10 different blog sites have exactly the same thing,  (Screams) why? (It’s the most annoying thing ever).

Don’t copy and paste, its annoying, we need something different, something that’s not on Linda Ikeji blog, not on 360nobs or Bella naija. We don’t like going through 100’s of blog sites reading the exactly the same thing and same format.

So below we have given you some useful tips  our 10 ten blogging dos and donts.

DO’s

  1. Do write passionately – It’s nice to know that you care about what you’re writing because you love it. If you write just to post something up, trust us, we will know.  “Boring! Onto the next one!!!” So write when you care.

  2. Do Update your blog frequently  – It can be difficult to maintain a regular blogging reschedule (Do you agree?).  On the other hand when you decided to have a blog, I’m sure you knew what was involved, right. Therefore try and upload something four to five times a week. Posting regularly gets you more reader.

  3. Encourage comments at the end of your blog ask questions. We must say Linda Ikeji does this really well, she gets her readers talking. Well Done Linda.

  4. Do write in a conversational tone- we like to read engaging blogs. Essays are boring (We’re sure you would agree), more reason why you need to write as if your talking to your readers. It just keeps them engaged and would want to come back because of that personal touch you have.

  5. Show your personality – Don’t forget this is your blog, so it should reflect the uniqueness in you.  Use your favorite colors to design your blog, if you have a really good sense of humor, incorporate it with your blog, and if you love music add it to your blog.

  6. Create a ‘about; and ‘contact page -  This is really important , if you don’t have this page , how do visitors or readers know what your blog is about,  how do you think ad agencies  are going to  contact you ?. So if you don’t already have this page, I really suggest you make one now.  If your struggling with making one use  “Contact Form 7”   ()  , its really simple

  7. Do Keeping your blog organized and clean – This helps blog readers have a good experience. Ensure that everything is where they need to be, and easy to find. For tips on how to keep your blog pretty.

  8. Do Post to other social media e.g. Facebook, twitter, Google+: – Such websites gives you more exposure, it would be great if you had personal pages specifically for your blog e.g. Facebook fan page, twitter handle etc. Your friends and other social networking sites are a great place to find readers, subscribers.  RSS (Really simple syndication) is a must for every blog.

  9. Do Add videos – Videos are great to have on your blog; they add real life aspect to your blog. Have you ever tried posting your vlogs on YouTube? It’s a great way bringing blog traffic.

Top 10 Blogging Dos and Don

Don’ts

  1. Don’t Plagiarize  -  I mean there’s nothing wrong with being inspired by some of your favorite bloggers, but its doesn’t mean you should copy and paste everything they write  (word to word) , don’t even copy their layout . ITS WRONG.  At least if you’re going to get any information from their site, link it back to its original site.

  2. Don’t bash other bloggers – Seriously don’t bring anyone down because you want to look cool. Just don’t do it, its mean. . If you feel someone has stolen your photos, or information, the mature thing to do is contact the blogger privately. Bashing other bloggers can diminish your online reputation. It’s important that you make your blog a fun and interesting place

  3. Profanity – Ever wondered why you struggle getting brands to work with you? Or why your blog is too quite? If you use profanity in your blog, that could be the reason why. Profanity is unprofessional and childish. It’s a definite “ No! “ from us at PING Magazine. So DON’T DO IT.

  4. Don’t write Long Paragraphs – So Boring! If you write like this, please stop.  Writing in long paragraphs, gets readers bored in no time, it’s hard for them to digest, especially when reading on a tablet. Try breaking up you paragraphs, make it shorter, use bullet points if you must and use subheads.

  5. Don’t ignore questions from your readers -  “ I like really love PING magazine. When are you publishing?”  Great Question! BUT don’t ignore it.  We feel this is a great opportunity to connect with people that read what you blog. However some comments can sometimes be inappropriate and for that reason don’t need a response, but this doesn’t stop you from responding  to intelligent / reasonable questions, and occasional “ thanks for reading my blog” goes a long way too.

  6. Don’t use unnecessary widgets/Plugins – Yeah we totally understand, you want to make your blog look cool and pretty, but this seriously affects the loading time of your blog, our mind is saying “ Bored! On to the next on” and you don’t want that.  Find out your blog loading time here.

  7. Avoid Spamming  – We see lots of this everyday. Spamming. It’s so wrong. Blogging is Organic. Don’t spam your blog link on every site you discover.  We know you want to promote yourself but blog growth comes from your own hard work and involvement in the blogging community.

  8. Don’t Post unverified information – As silly as it sounds, people do it. As a blogger you need to step up. ‘Welcome to the world or research’. You should always research your information, make sure its accurate, dates, time, location, names. Little things like this are essential and must be accurate, or you will loose people.

  9. Don’t post with Grammatical Mistakes / Proper English -  “ I doesn’t understand. Why some people dresses this ways”. You’re probably thinking  “ Seriously! Do people write like this?” The answer is unfortunately YES, although accidents happen as you type, but it’s your duty to go back and check before you publish your work.  Also the use of Slang in blogs “ Please, Don’t do it!”

YOU ARE A BLOGGER; YOUR ENGLISH NEEDS TO BE ON POINT AT AL TIMES. You can’t afford to be making silly mistakes. This is the time you go back and re-read what you have written. Its essential if you want to grow.

Well that’s all folks; we wish you luck with your blogs. Please no Plagiarism. Always give credit where it’s due.
