Panono 360 ball camera

Panono 360 Ball Camera

The world of panorama photography is ever-growing.  We seem to come up with more and more ways to capture high-quality images in the form of a 180-degree stitching of still images. To get a full 360-degree image, however, requires precision. For that, the requirement would be, cameras pointing in all possible directions, and being fired at the same instant.

The Panono camera is a device which delivers this precision in the form of a ball-like device which can be thrown into the air. It has 36 cameras built into it, all of which fire simultaneously as soon as the ball reaches its highest point. All 36 images are then spliced to create a final, beautiful 72MP image, available for enjoyment via mobile phone, online or through an embed code.

Jonas Pfeil, the guy behind the invention of the Panono says, “You capture everything in one photo, and you don’t have to stand there for minutes to take all the images.”

The Panono however, is still a prototype, and hasn’t changed much since its invention in 2011. Neither is it the first attempt at a ball-like camera. Others include the Squito and the Bublcam (capable of video recording). This sudden competition for ball-like cameras marks the entry into the market of previously costly (in terms of money or effort) technologies, such as cloud computing and high-quality low-cost imaging tech.
